Joel Booth, 51, of Lacey’s Spring, Alabama passed from this earth into the Lord’s hands on April 4, 2026. Joel was preceded into Eternity by his mother Becky and by his uncle Randall.
He is survived by his wife Janice, father Tom, sister Reagan (Dave) Elder, godson Riley Carroll and family, sister-in-law Cynthia Ann (Neal) Quick, a host of aunts, uncles, and cousins, a loving Church family, four cats, and the most amazing and humbling friends anyone could ask for.
Joel was a dedicated member of the Farley Church of Christ. His faith was unwavering despitethe battle he fought for the past 8 1/2 years with multiple myeloma and Parkinson’s disease. He was blessed to be under the care of myeloma specialist Dr. Luciano Costa at UAB.
Joel earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering in 2007 from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. When he completed his bachelor’s degree in 2002, he was awarded the Electrical Engineering Student of the Year award. He worked for the US Army Aviation and Missile Center on Redstone Arsenal from 2002 until he medically retired in 2023. Joel’s contributions to our warfighters were many.
Joel was an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow in scouting. He worked summers at Camp Sequoyah, where he ran the tower climbing/rappelling program and multiple backpacking events, and acted as the Assistant Camp Ranger.
Joel was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hiking, backpacking, survival skills building, whitewater paddling, and rock climbing/mountaineering. He pulled his wife Janice along for all of these adventures, even though she was afraid of heights and has never learned to swim. Joel was gracious to give Janice’s early love, figure skating, a try. They became Alabama’s only adult pair team and competed regionally for over a decade. They performed multiple shows at the Point Mallard Ice Complex, and were invited to perform at the Ober Gatlinburg Christmas program twice, where they became great friends with the Ober skating school members.
Joel's great friend Gene Boshell says there are not enough electrons in the universe to start to describe who Joel was. This is true. Joel was a patient teacher in all things. Helen Hays said he was a “quiet one” who knew how to do almost anything and would help anyone. Although neither Joel nor Janice could be immune to the response of flowing electrons, he did everything he could to teach Janice all he knew, making sure she was well grounded. There’s a joke here if you don’t already know (ask David McFerrin).
Joel’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at the Farley Church of Christ, 12113 S Memorial Parkway, Huntsville AL 35803 with visitation at 3:30 and service at 4:00. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Farley Church of Christ, the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (https://cyo.themmrf.org/campaign/Joel-Booth-memorial), or your local animal shelter.
