Obituary

John James Del Villan, Jr., was born on 12 September 1921 in Steubenville, Ohio to the late John James Del Villan, Sr. and Marguerite May Gibbons Del Villan.  He departed this life on Sunday, 8 November 2020, as he enjoyed the beginning of his 100 th year of life. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Bernice A. Sperduti and Margaret L. Augusta;  brother Eugene D. Del Villan; and granddaughter Jennifer L. Del Villan.  John is survived only by his youngest sister, Patricia M. Del Villan of Cleveland, Ohio.

He was married to Mary Anna Schmidt Del Villan for 63 years, before her passing on 19 October 2014.  John and Mary have seven children all surviving; Margaret K. Del Villan (George); John J. Del Villan, III (Mary), Mark A. Del Villan; Amanda M. Del VillanClark (Brent); Robert C. Del Villan (Yrys); Matthew Del Villan (Laurie) and Mary Ann Anderson (Bruce).  Papa Jack was grandfather to Maura H. Brown, Bradford E. Clark, Brenton J. Clark; Merritt E. Anderson; Madelaine K. Decker; Margaret L. Anderson; Christian D. Anderson, Cory J. Anderson, Mitchell W. Anderson; Amanda G. Anderson; Mark A. Del Villan, Jr; Samantha M. Del Villan; Michelle A. Rodrigues; Halley Del Villan and  Ashley Del Villan. He was great grandfather to Adrienne H.M. Brown; Benjamin A. C. Brown; Annaliese P. L. Brown; Aleydis M. G. Brown, Lydia C. Clark; Charlotte S. M. Clark; Brooks D. Clark; Eleanor K. Decker; Americo K. Rodigues, Enzo K. Rodrigues; Leah M. Del Villan; Mason J. Morris and Maddox L. Hensel.

He was a US Navy veteran serving as a Naval Officer during WWII and continued service thereafter in the US Naval Reserve. John owned and operated his own community grocery store, Del's Market, Cleveland OH for 18 years. He then went into sales and retired from Anter Brothers, Cleveland, OH.  After his retirement, he and Mary moved to 'The Farm', Loudonville, OH and later relocated to the Huntsville, AL area.  He was a member of Saint Paul's Catholic Church, Athens, AL and Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, Huntsville, AL.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Father Brian Lowe at 11:15 am, Saturday, 14 November 2020, Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1055 Hughes Road, Madison, AL 35758.   Viewing for friends and loved ones will precede the Mass from 10:15 am to 11:15 am.  A private Internment will be conducted at Good Shepherd Catholic Church Columbarium, Huntsville, AL for the family.  (CDC Guidelines will be in place and face coverings will be required).

In loving memory of our precious father, grandfather and great grandfather, request donations be made to the Saint John Paul II High School Scholarship Fund, Huntsville, AL in lieu of flowers.
