John Paul Holm passed away on May 19, 2019 in Huntsville, AL when he was released from his fight with cancer. Services will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and uncle.

John was born on September 2, 1956 in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Frank J. and Rebecca (Searcy) Holm and has resided in Huntsville, AL for over 60 years.

He was a graduate of Johnson High School and attended The University of Alabama and received his B.S. degree from U.A.H. He worked in the technology industry for over 35 years. He ended his long career at SAIC in Huntsville, where he had worked for over 11 years. John volunteered countless hours and years to youth sports and helping family and others and those in need.

John loved all sports especially football and basketball. He was active in many sports and helped coach recreation league sports for over 15 years with his children, grandkids, friends, and others. He loved Alabama football and all music. He ran in 3 marathons, 1 half marathon, and many other races. He loved snow skiing for many years and loved camping with his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband and father. He was a member of the Catholic Church.

John Paul married Mary Balmut on February 6, 1982. They have four children. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years Mary, of Huntsville, AL; his son and daughter-in-law, John Lee and Robyn Holm of Brookhaven, GA; daughte, Megan Rebecca Holm of Huntsville, AL; daughter and son-in-law, Candice Jane and Matt Brown of Huntsville, AL; son, Daniel Frank Holm of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Aynslie Madison and Daniel John of Huntsville, AL, John Mark and David James of Brookhaven, GA, and Easton Wayne and Briar Mae of Huntsville, AL; John's parents, Frank John and Rebecca (Searcy) Holm of Huntsville, AL; sister, Susan Holm Maynard of Phoenix, AZ; sister and brother-in-law, Phyllis and Jake Wood of Northport, AL; brother-in-law, Dan Maynard of Phoenix, AZ; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and numerous loved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

John is preceded in death by his brother, George Frank Holm, grandparents, an infant brother, his wife's mother, father and nephew.

All that knew John Paul (Homey) remember him for his kindness and concern for others. His great love for his wife and children and all his family and friends. His great love of life and living every moment to its fullness is a testament to the life he lived. He will be always be greatly loved and missed by all.

Services will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home. Visitation will be 5-8 PM on Monday, May 20, 2019 and the funeral service will be on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 at 11:00 AM.
