John D. Hone Jr., 79 years old, passed away on August 4, 2024, in Huntsville, AL.

Visitation and Funeral will be held on August 7, 2024, at Life Church Huntsville, 2300 Memorial Parkway SW, Huntsville, AL.  Visitation will be from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and funeral  from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Graveside Services following the funeral will be in Pinehaven Memorial Gardens, 28615 US-72, Hollywood, AL.

John was born in Huntsville, AL, to John and Alberta Hone on January 17, 1945.  He went to Butler High School and played football.  He married Gerry Keathley Hone on October 28, 1966, in Betsy Layne, KY.  He served for the Alabama National Guard from June 1964 to October 1969.  He worked as a telephone repairman for AT&T in Huntsville, AL for 33 years.  In 1997, he retired and traveled the world with his wife Gerry.  He was involved in Life Church Huntsville activities from 1975 to 2024.  He was the biggest Alabama fan you could ever meet, Roll Tide!!

He was preceded in death by his father, John D. Hone; mother, Alberta Moore Hone; sisters:  Ruby Howell, Alice Clark, and Paula Gomes; and son, John Thomas Hone.

John is survived by his spouse, Gerry K. Hone; children, Kristie H. McClure (Terry), Heather H. Harlan (Jeff), and Angel Hill (Joe); grandchildren: Taylour J. Hone, Sydney M. Hone, and Jonathan S. Harlan; daughter-in-law, Shelley D. H. Rader; sisters, Sue McKenzie and Linda Lanford; and his loving dog, Grace.

Pallbearers will be Terry McClure, Jeffery Harlan, Jonathan Harlan, Jeremy Gomes, Michael Olivares, and Joey Lanford.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all of our friends and family, our church family at Life Church Huntsville, Pastor Kevin McGlamery and the rest of the pastoral staff for all their outstanding support during this long journey to John's heavenly home.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 7th from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM at Life Church Huntsville, followed by service at 1:00 with Pastor Kevin McGlamery officating.  Burial will be in Pine Haven Memorial Gardens of Scottsboro.  Berryhill Funeral Home is assisting the family.
