Obituary

John Malcolm Tagg of Huntsville, AL died on Tuesday, 1 March 2022.  He was 87 years old.  John was born on 11 January 1935 in Dinnington, England.  He attended Imperial College in London and graduated with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering.  Following his graduation, he worked for Hawker Siddeley.

In 1963, John immigrated to the United States to support the space race and realize the dream of achieving manned spaceflight and putting a man on the moon.  Over the course of his 50+ year career, he worked as a Dynamics Engineer for Teledyne Brown Engineering, McDonnell Douglas, and Boeing, supporting spaceflight programs spanning this period including Gemini, Apollo-Saturn, Skylab, Space Shuttle, and the International Space Station.  He also participated in the development of missile defense and remote sensing systems used by the Department of Defense and U.S. Customs and Border Protection, respectively.  In recognition of his long and distinguished service, he was awarded NASA's prestigious Silver Snoopy Award in August 1993.

John is preceded in death by his eldest son—John Herbert Tagg.  He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years—Elizabeth Jane Tagg; three sons—David, Malcolm and wife Alida, and Howard and wife Jeanine; and his grandchildren—John, Alan, Elizabeth, William, and Sarah.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, 14 March at St. Thomas Episcopal Church located at  12200 Bailey Cove Rd SE, Huntsville, AL  35803.  A reception will be held at 12pm with the funeral service to follow at 1pm.  A private family burial will occur at Maple Hill Cemetery immediately following the funeral service.  Flowers should be sent to the Berryhill Funeral Home, 2305 North Memorial Parkway, Huntsville, AL  35810.  Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Huntsville Hospital Foundation at:
