John M. "Coop" Cooper III was born on January 5, 1949, in Lauderdale County, Alabama, and peacefully passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on November 7, 2024, at his home in Huntsville, Alabama.
John was a proud member of the American Legion and the IBEW 558 Electrical Union, working as an electrical engineer at Matec Instruments. He also served as a Chaplain at Crestwood Hospital, conducted Bible studies at home and on the radio, and authored a Christian book on substance abuse recovery.
John was a beloved son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Marshall Cooper Jr. and Sue Copeland Cooper of Athens, Alabama. He is survived by his wife, Debra Cooper of Huntsville, Alabama; his two sons, Dwayne Andrew Cooper of Huntsville, Alabama, and John Marshall Cooper IV (Stephanie) of Springhill, Tennessee; and his cherished grandchildren, Emmaline Grace Cooper and John Marshall Cooper V. John is also survived by his four siblings, Brenda Wilson of Athens, Alabama, Bobby Cooper (Karen) of Hazel Green, Alabama, Gary Cooper of Meridianville, Alabama, and Suzanne Cooper of Huntsville, Alabama, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
A Vietnam War veteran, John served in the United States Navy Seabees and had a deep respect for fellow veterans. His dedication to the Patriot Guard Riders reflected his commitment to honoring those who served our country.
John, Coop, Daddy, and Grandaddy, you are loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew you.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15th, from 9:30-11:00 A.M. at Berryhill Funeral Home, with a funeral service will immediately following at 11:00 A.M. Burial will take place at Limestone Memorial Gardens in Athens, AL.
