Joshua David Phillips, 37, passed unexpectedly on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

He is missed sorely by his wife, Kenisha of 12 years; and their cat, Tonks; siblings, Aaron and Amanda; father, Paul; and a number of family and friends who love him dearly. Josh is preceded in death by his mother, Janet; grandmother, Gayle; and grandfather, Gary.

A Texas native, Josh and his family moved to Huntsville, AL to pursue career opportunities as defense contractors on Redstone Arsenal. Josh earned a BS in Mathematics from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA - where he pledged the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega - and a MS in Computer Science from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He enjoyed his career as a systems engineer and analyst for the Missile Defense Agency. After graduate school, Josh volunteered with the Audio Visual Team at his church, Trinity United Methodist, for a number of years. He also supported the performing arts community in Huntsville, especially Opera Huntsville and Huntsville Community Chorus Association, as a loyal audience member and (gracious) volunteer.

Josh was a big dude. He did everything big. He and Kenisha amassed a relatively big collection of board games. As a Dungeons and Dragons DM, the attention and care he put into world building rivaled that of independent video games. His emotional support water bottle was almost too large for Kenisha to open unassisted. And when Josh got into woodworking and made a "modest" workbench for the garage, the wood he chose was more appropriate for deck building. Most importantly, Josh had a huge intellect, rapier wit, and even bigger heart.

A Memorial Service in Josh's honor will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity on Saturday, January 11 at 4:30pm.
