It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Karen Vicki Oliver Limberg, who left us peacefully on June 24, 2026, at the age of 76. Karen's journey began on November 21, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, born to John D. Oliver and Dorothy Mae Drake Oliver. Her life was a tapestry woven with love, laughter, and an indomitable spirit that touched all who knew her.
Karen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a cornerstone of her family who was cherished deeply by all. Her early childhood was mostly spent in East Tennessee surrounded by many family members before her parents made the decision to move their young family to Burt, Michigan. There she attended Chesaning Union Schools in Chesaning, Michigan. Then, on January 20, 1968, she married the love of her life, David Limberg, in Saginaw, Michigan. Together, they built a beautiful life over 58 years, raising two wonderful children. When the opportunity came available to move to Alabama, David and Karen moved from Saginaw, Michigan to the Huntsville, Alabama area. The desire for a warmer climate and closer proximity to East Tennessee made it an easy decision. As their family grew to include grandchildren, they didn’t hesitate to raise them too with their son, Kurt, and his former wife. For the past four years, they have been raising and nurturing the growth of their great-granddaughter alongside their daughter, Erika.
Karen's greatest career role was that of a stay-at-home mom and grandmother, where she poured her heart and soul into her family, providing a nurturing, loving, and beautiful home. Her hobbies reflected her zest for life and her love for nature. Karen found peace outdoors, whether fishing, camping, or tending to her garden. Her keen eye for design was evident in her home and landscape projects, and she took immense pride in every detail. One of her favorite pastimes was taking long drives through the countryside, soaking in the beauty of the world around her.
Karen possessed an unparalleled warmth and kindness, always ready with a smile or a hearty laugh. Her home was a haven of hospitality, where family and friends were always welcomed with open arms and a lovingly prepared meal. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel like family, earning her the affectionate title of "mom" from many who were not related by blood but by heart.
Karen is survived by her devoted husband, David Ernest Limberg; her loving daughter, Erika Lee Pace; her cherished grandchildren, Brittaney Anastasia Limberg and William Charles Limberg II; and her precious great-granddaughter, Kinsley Harper Collom Pace. She is also survived by her sisters, Brenda Kaye Oliver Runyon and Sherry Duan Oliver Nowak, and a host of extended family members and dear friends who will miss her dearly.
Karen was predeceased by her parents, John D. and Dorothy Mae Oliver; her in-laws, William Charles and Ruth Genevieve Limberg; her beloved son, Kurt David Limberg; her dear son-in-law, Tony Ray Pace; her sister, Pamela Dawn Oliver Shackelford; and her niece, Deanna Shackelford.
As we gather to celebrate Karen's life, we remember her for her unwavering love and her enduring legacy of kindness and joy. Her spirit will forever guide us, reminding us to cherish each moment and to love deeply and unconditionally. May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty she so loved.
