Obituary

Kevin Warren McCracken, passed away on October 11th, 2025, at the age of 64, in Huntsville, Alabama, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his loving wife, Freda, his son Brett, daughter-in-law Fran, and son, Jake.  Kevin and Freda recently celebrated their 30-year wedding anniversary. He loved her deeply and made sure she knew it every single day of their marriage, while at the same time instilling in his sons what it meant to be a man.

The youngest of three sons, Kevin was born in Kingston, New York, on January 29, 1961, to Mahlon Smith McCracken II and Mary Ann McCracken. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Mahlon "Buddy" Smith McCracken III and David Michael McCracken.

Kevin may not have been born in Alabama, but he got here as fast as he could. As a young child, his parents moved to Huntsville, Alabama, while his father worked on the Saturn V rocket program. They then moved to Rockville, Maryland, where Kevin graduated from Wootton High School in 1979. He graduated from David Lipscomb College in 1983, after which he began his long career in finance. He worked for Lockheed Martin for over two decades and then moved to Leidos when his division was transferred. Kevin's career gave his family opportunities to live in South Louisiana, the Washington DC area and then in 2002, back to Sweet Home Alabama.

Kevin was a good father to his boys. He attended all their activities, including church, sports and scouting. He was a good Christian man and saw to it that his boys grew up knowing their Bibles. The family attended many years of Lads to Leaders events together.

Kevin was a very easy going person, though also able to be a stern disciplinarian when needed. He had a joyful spirit and love for life. He always had a good sense of humor. Kevin was a caring person who will be missed and remembered with great affection. While our hearts are absolutely shattered by this sudden loss, we are excited for him, knowing that he is home in heaven and at peace.
