Obituary

Kimberly Renee Hart, 59, of Huntsville, AL passed away February 12, 2026 of sepsis. Kimberly was born May 2, 1966 in Decatur, AL.  She graduated from Austin High School in 1985, then from Calhoun with an Associates in Drafting, and later from UAH in 2005 with honors receiving a BA in Studio Arts and Art History.  She worked in various fields, starting with gas and lights at Decatur Utilities, as a shelter specialist at Crisis Services of North Alabama, and as an art teacher for 13 years at Greengate School for Dyslexia. Kimberly also taught art  in the Huntsville – Decatur – Albertville area through the years.

She was a beloved artist who had a studio at Lowe Mill for many years and taught classes at Huntsville Museum of Art, as well as Greengate School for Dyslexia.  She had works displayed at Huntsville Museum of Art and other museums/galleries.  There are pieces of her art in private collections and in businesses including HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology. She worked in many mediums including textiles, painting, print making, cyanotypes and encaustics, a wax medium she was brought to through beekeeping.

Kimberly was adventurous and loved to travel.  She hiked to the bottom of the Grand Canyon, kayaked in the Nantahala River and in Puget Sound, and did a tandem paraglider flight in October.

She had the biggest smile and loved everyone, and everyone loved her. She was a beacon of kindness and empathy and encouraged all she met, but especially her students. She was an excellent art teacher who created a safe place to try new things, to express thoughts, and to share creative visions. Students might start the year feeling reluctant, but they completed the year with a new appreciation for what they could accomplish, and feeling proud of what they created. Her art students went on to have richer lives for having known her.

Kimberly lived with kidney disease the last 13 years, but the final two months were difficult, with her rotating between Huntsville Hospital and Encompass Rehab Hospital.  She passed away during her second bout of sepsis in two months.

Kimberly was a loving wife and daughter. Kimberly and Mark enjoyed 22 years together, and were able to travel, have a studio at Lowe Mill, enjoy many activities and hobbies, and loved spending time with their dogs. Anyone who met Kimberly and Mark could see the love and connection the two shared; they truly were soul mates. Mark and Kimberly's mother Nancy, took excellent care of Kimberly during the last two months. She is survived by her husband, Mark Mohon, her parents Billy Joe and Nancy Carol (Helms) Hart, her brother Joseph G. and Diahn (Green) Hart, other loving family and friends, and her two dogs Obi and Abby.

Loved by all, she touched many lives.

No services will be held at this time, but a celebration of life will be announced on her Facebook page and held in coming months.
