Obituary

Linda Twitty Scott, 80, of Owens Cross Roads, AL, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Mrs. Scott was born on September 5, 1946 to Clifford & Elizabeth Twitty in Lewisburg,Tennessee. She graduated as valedictorian from Petersburg High school in Petersburg, Tennessee in 1964, and Mrs. Scott went on to study for two years at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tennessee prior to graduating with a degree from Tennessee Tech University in 1968.

Following graduation with a degree in elementary education, Mrs. Scott started her first job at Petersburg Elementary School as a fourth teacher. After marrying, she moved to Huntsville and taught for four years at Jones Valley Elementary and twenty-seven years at Morris Elementary. During this time, she mentored many teachers and served on various school level and district level committees. Mrs. Scott was proud of serving as an educator and impacting young lives in Huntsville for more than 31 years.

In 1962, Mrs. Scott met Gary Scott at Petersburg High School in Petersburg. Gary and Linda went from high school sweethearts to getting married following college. They wed on June 29, 1969 and went on to have one child, Bradley Alton Scott.

In 2001, Mrs. Scott retired and remained committed to teaching as she continued serving as an English Second Language (ESL) tutor at West Huntsville Elementary for multiple years. She also spent her time helping at church and enjoying time with her family. Her pride and joy was spoiling her two grandsons, Aubrey and Landon. Whether her grandsons had a ballgame or wanted to go see deer in Guntersville, she was all for it and wanting to spend time with them!

Over the years, Mrs. Scott’s faith in Jesus flourished and shone like a beacon as she was known for being an encourager to others. In fact, she took great pride in being the first person to send Christmas cards to friends and family each November, and she would often remind others of how many months until Christmas! Simply stated, she saw the good in everyone and was always looking forward to family time. Mrs. Scott also served as an elder’s wife, Sunday school teacher, and member of various church committees at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Huntsville.

Mrs. Scott was preceded in death by her husband, Gary Scott of Huntsville, and her parents Clifford & Elizabeth Twitty of Petersburg, Tennessee. Mrs. Scott is survived by her son Brad Scott and daughter-in-law Amy Scott of Huntsville, grandsons Aubrey Scott and Landon Scott, and her sister Nancy Parkerson and husband James Parkerson of Petersburg, Tennessee.
