Obituary

Lisa Gayle Edge, encircled by the love of her family, peacefully passed away on Sunday afternoon, March 16th, 2025. Known for her fierce generosity and sunny disposition, Lisa was a woman who never met a stranger. She had a special place in her heart for her cherished fur babies... and to say she had a few pets over the years would be an understatement! Born and raised in Huntsville, Lisa had a deep love for her family and carried that love with her every day. She always had a smile ready to share—one for you, and one for the next person, no questions asked.

Lisa was never one to let a lesson pass without sharing it, and she took pleasure in reminding everyone, "Two wrongs don't make a right—unless you're Peter or Jesus!" She always had a southern saying ready to make you laugh, sometimes at your own expense. And when it came to her personal indulgences, you knew Lisa was all about treating herself to a Jimmy Buffett loaded tea, because—let's face it—it's always 5 o'clock somewhere!

For 27 years, Lisa was a proud and dedicated member of the Madison County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), serving as Senior 911 Dispatcher with distinction. She was a cornerstone of the department and treasured her work family dearly. Lisa referred to her coworkers as "her kids and her deputies," always looking out for them like a mother hen and making sure they got home safe to their families every single day.

Her loud, unmistakable voice was a force of nature— sometimes flamboyant as it echoed throughout the building on any given day, while also calming and comforting during high stakes situations. If you knew her, you can imagine the unison of coworkers turning down the volume as soon as her voice came screeching over the radio.

Just like her screeching voice, Lisa was also known for her well-meaning shoulder massages. The massages came with a side of over stimulation, bruises.... possibly feeling you like you'd been hit by a bus, and absolutely no relaxation... but all knew her heart and her intention was solely to brighten your day.

Above all else, Lisa had an unwavering faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was passionate about passing on His love to others, and those who knew her felt that love, kindness, and compassion in every conversation. Lisa's laugh was contagious, and her smile lit up each and every room she entered. She made everyone feel like family, and her presence brought joy to all who were lucky enough to know her.

In the spirit of Lisa's wisdom, her last words of advice to us were: "Wake up each day with gratitude in your heart, hope in your soul, and a smile on your face. Look for the good, embrace the possibilities, and make today a beautiful chapter in your story."

As much as we joke on Lisa, oh how we wish we could still be surrounded by her love. The type of love she displayed to all is a type of love that is only described by 1 Corinthians 13:4-5; Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. We should all strive to show others the love that Lisa showed us.

Whether you knew her as "Screech" or "Big Bird" (funny story for another day), Lisa's legacy is one of professionalism, dedication, kindness, love, and humor.

Lisa was preceded in death by her father, James (Jim) Lee Long, her mother, Dorothy Markham Wuersch, and her nephew/bonus son, Michael Edge Jr.

She is survived by her sisters, Sherry Hennington (Billy), Pam Ward (Daniel), brothers, Michael Edge Sr. and Jerome Long, her Aunt Nell Medley, Uncle Charles Markham, cousins, nieces, nephews, and one great-niece.

The family will receive visitors on Saturday, March 22nd, from 2:00-5:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Lisa's honor to Dandelion House , a transitional home for women leaving domestic violence situations—an organization that was very close to Lisa's heart.

Lisa, rest easy now. Your watch is done. We've got it from here, and we promise to carry on your legacy with love, laughter, and maybe just a little bit of noise from time to time.
