Obituary

Margaret Ann Patterson Johnson, 83, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on April 23, 2025.

She is survived by her son, Lloyd A. Johnson Jr.; grandson, William Andrew Johnson (Jessica); great-grandsons, Blake Andrew Johnson & Tyler Lee Johnson; niece who was like a daughter, DeLinda (John), her beloved dog, Rufus; and a host of extended family & friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Lloyd; parents, William Leonard and Ethyl Andrews Patterson; brother, Grady Patterson and son Willam Louis Johnson.

Margaret was a faithful member of the Church of Christ attending services on Sundays and Wednesdays when she was physically able.  Many Saturday evenings she would head to the church to turn the heat/air on and that communion was ready for the Sunday Service.

Margaret graduated from East Limestone High School in 1959.  She married the love of her life,  Lloyd, in December 1958 and supported him during his military career in Savannah, Georgia.  Upon their return to Alabama, Margaret attended and graduated in 1979 from The University of
Alabama in Huntsville with an BA in Early Education.  She did her student teaching at Montview Elementary.  Margaret loved children and helping them in their learning experiences.  Margaret then chose to assist Lloyd in his business.  After his passing, she continued to help Lloyd Jr. in his CPA office.

Margaret enjoyed the simple things of life.  She loved to sing and listen to music.  Lloyd her husband would play guitar and they would enjoy singing many songs.  One of those songs was "All I Have To Do Is Dream", by the Everly Brothers.  She enjoyed fishing with a cane using a grub
worm dug up from the yard.  She was able to catch the "Big One" while Andrew (grandson) who was fishing with the more sophisticated rod- n- reel caught the smaller of "the catch."

She loved to garden whether it be flowers or vegetables.   Her favorite flower was Peonies. Margaret loved antiques.  She loved her antique freezer box and Hoosier cabinets.   She loved anything Chicken or Cow decor for the kitchen.  Many order online now, but Margaret was a catalog shopper for years before internet shopping.

She was a big fan of LL Bean and Harry & David.  On a birthday at holiday, her family could always count on a package from one of these stores. She loved certain foods such as coconut or chocolate pies; orange slice cookies; and strawberry pretzel salad from Dallas Mills to name a few.   Margaret was a small woman but you knew when you saw the White GMC Jimmy coming that she would be behind the wheel.  She required pillows on the seat and sometimes even a milk crate to use as a stepstool to get inside of it.  If Lloyd, Jr. was playing T-Ball or baseball or Will was playing soccer, you could count on Margaret and the Jimmy being there.

Margaret loved going back to Savannah to vacation.  When it came to her pets, you will never be able to find anyone that loved their pet like her. Even during her last few months when maybe she was unable to take care of herself, she made sure that Rufus was fed. She would be asked what she wanted to eat and most of the time, she would give Rufus's order first.  She sometimes had to be reminded that she needed to eat instead of Rufus. 😊

Sometimes she would spend hours watching her favorites on TV – Love Boat; Murder She Wrote and we cannot leave out the Hallmark Christmas Movies.  She enjoyed listening to 50's music even when she wasn't feeling her best.  As her health declined, Lloyd Jr.  became her full-time caregiver and made sure, if at all possible, that Mom had what she requested.

Margaret was always concerned about being a burden but was a ray of sunshine and appreciative of the small things.  We each need to take a lesson and learn that it's not about what you have but what you do with it!
