Obituary

Ella Marie Giles Grimes, of Talladega, Alabama, formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2026, surrounded by the love and memories of those who held her dear.

Marie, affectionately known as “Mamo” to family and friends, was born on September 18, 1930, in Nashville, Tennessee. She retired from Redstone Arsenal after 30 years of dedicated service as a civil servant. A woman of strong faith, she was a longtime and faithful member of Epworth United Methodist Church and, more recently, East Huntsville Baptist Church. Above all, Marie will be remembered as a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and the love she shared with them will remain a lasting part of her legacy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Beulah Giles, and her son-in-law, John Miller.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan G. Miller of Talladega, Alabama; son, William C. Grimes, Jr. (Beth) of Jeffersonville, Georgia; grandchildren, Becky M. Wilson (Pat), Amy M. Lewis (Jeremiah), Lindsay G. Shipper (Curtis), and Jarrod Grimes (Ashley); 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4th at Berryhill Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow immediately afterward, with Brother Brian Cole officiating.

The family extends its most sincere gratitude to Compassus Hospice for the compassionate care, kindness, and support they provided to our beloved Mamo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to East Huntsville Baptist Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
