Obituary

Marion Beirne Spragins III, affectionately known to many as Big Dog and Big Daddy, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025.

His family will host a gathering for friends at Berryhill Funeral Home on Monday, March 10, from 4 PM to 6 PM.

Born on March 20, 1951, in Huntsville, Alabama, Beirne was the son of Anna Ruth White Spragins and Marion Beirne Spragins Jr. He completed his education at Huntsville High School before attending the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where he was an active member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and earned a bachelor's degree in Business.

After graduating, Beirne returned to Huntsville to join White Mayflower, a family business originally established as White Transfer and Storage by his grandfather, Lawson Wallace Law White. An entrepreneur at heart, like many of the men in his family, Beirne was also a passionate collector of sports memorabilia, which inspired him to establish "The Collector's Corner," the first sports memorabilia store in Huntsville. His experiences at sports collector shows across the nation, where he met numerous baseball and football Hall of Famers, led him to his next venture: the acquisition of a limousine.

Beirne envisioned bringing high-class limousine services to Huntsville, similar to those in larger cities he had visited. He founded Spragins Limousine, which expanded over the years to include three limousines, catering to a diverse clientele for events both within the city and in surrounding areas. Beirne was actively involved in several clubs, including the Elk's Club and the Eagles. He was also a proud member of the Alabama Sheriffs Association, often humorously stating, "$100 a year is better than a ticket!" A larger-than-life personality, Beirne was known for his infectious smile and his signature greeting, "LUCKYYYY!" He was a beloved figure, cherished by many, especially the ladies, and regarded as a true friend by those who knew him. Beirne is survived by his son, Marion Beirne Spragins IV (Bo), along with his grandchildren, Sarah Echols Spragins and Marion Beirne Spragins V.

He is also remembered by his three nieces, Amy Allen Wellingham Soto, Whitney Allen Heaps, and Meghan Allen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Beirne Spragins Jr. and his cherished mother, Anna Ruth White, as well as his sister, Ruth Lowry Spragins Hill.
