Martha “Jane” Gurley Dismuke, age 75, of New Hope, Alabama, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on July 26, 2026.
Jane was born to the late Jettie Mae Gurley and James Alva Gurley Sr. of Gurley, Alabama. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Alva Gurley Jr.
Jane shared 38 years of marriage with the love of her life, Robert Dismuke of New Hope. She is survived by her children, Robin (Chad) Fulton, Sara (Johnny) Walker, and Robert (Robin) Dismuke; grandchildren, Hayley Fox, Kaleb Dismuke, Aubrey (Connor) Meagher, and Braxton Fulton; siblings, Elah (Earl) Perry, Joyce (Butch) Sublett, and Larry (Donna) Gurley; sister-in-law, Linda Gurley; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
For more than 30 years, Jane faithfully served the citizens of Madison County through her work at the Madison County Courthouse. She was also a beloved and active member of her graduating class, helping keep classmates connected through lunches, communication, and gatherings throughout the years. She loved and appreciated each and every one of them.
Jane loved to travel, enjoyed crafting, and gave her time through her participation with Special Olympics. She valued friendship and community and found joy in bringing people together.
A woman of unwavering faith, Jane was a faithful and treasured member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where she helped establish and lead the Ladies Group. Her faith and heart for service were evident in the many ways she cared for her church and community.
Jane will be remembered for her faith, dedication to family, friendship, and service to others. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the friendships she nurtured, and the love she shared will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the Aveanna Healthcare Hospice team for the exceptional care, compassion, and support they provided to Jane and her family. The family is also deeply grateful to the many friends and loved ones who offered meals, visits, prayers, uplifting words, and support throughout this journey. Every act of kindness was sincerely appreciated.
Visitation will be Friday, July 31st from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. Chapel service will be Saturday, August 1st at 1:00 PM, followed by burial at Gurley Cemetery.
