Mary Carolyn Bibb (Carolyn), 89, passed away at her son's home in Harveston Saturday, February 3, 2024, surrounded by her family.

Carolyn was born on May 26, 1934 in Belle Mina, Alabama and was a fifth generation Alabamian and a direct descendant of the second governor of Alabama, Thomas Bibb.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Clarence Bibb and Christine Kimery Bibb; brother Robert Clarence Bibb, Jr.; and son, Roy Preston Nelson, III.

She is survived by her son, Robert Bibb Nelson of Huntsville; grandson, Nicholas Robert Nelson of Huntsville; and niece, Leslie S. Bibb of Birmingham.

Carolyn graduated from Decatur High School in 1952 and then attended Agnes Scott College. She completed her studies at Alabama Polytechnic Institutein Auburn,graduating in 1956 with a degree in elementary education. While there, she was a member of the Kappa Delta sorority. After college, Carolyn served in the Navy as an intelligence officer from 1956 to 1958. She was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant. Carolyn then married and ultimately settled in Houston, TX, taking up substitute teaching and working part-time in retail while raising two sons. In 1988, Carolyn returned to Huntsville where she remained until her passing. Carolyn cared deeply for her family and friends in Houston and Huntsville as well as those abroad. Her compassion, counsel, and friendship will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be held 5:00 - 7:00 pm on Friday, February 9, at Berryhill Funeral Home followed by graveside burial services at Maple Hill Cemetery on Saturday, February 10, at 11:00am.

The family has requested flowers and donations to Compassus Hospice of Huntsville Alabama.
