IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Louise
Chapman
December 11, 1945 – February 3, 2026
Mary Louise (Dalzell) Chapman, 80, passed away peacefully at home on February 3, 2026. Marylou was born on December 11, 1945, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and grew up a child of the Army, living in Japan, Germany, and across the US, with her family finally settling in Pomona, California. Marylou was an avid lifelong reader, and would often have several books going at the same time.
She was the loving wife of Stephen C. Chapman for 55 years, married in July of 1970. They were introduced by Stephen's sister, Sylvia, when he was overseas with the Air Force. Through many, many letters, they fell in love, and after a camping trip in Idaho, they stopped in Reno, Nevada, on the way home to finally say "I Do." They made their first home in Covina, California, where they had their two children. Their lives and the Air Force took them next to San Antonio, Texas, and then to Huntsville, Alabama, where they have lived since 1989.
Marylou was selfless and generous with her love and time, creating a warm and comfortable home for family to come together. She held family above all, and made sure that far flung members, from Oregon to New York and from Canada to Slovakia and Ireland, stayed connected. She researched her family's ancestry, traveling across the country to search for grave markers and collect the stories of her distant relatives. She connected with other descendants of the Dalzell clan who were generations removed from their origins in the lowlands of Scotland.
Marylou is survived by her husband, Stephen; their two children, Stacey C. Tobin (James) and Stephen Cristopher Chapman (Meredith); and grandchildren Colin Tobin, Robin Tobin, and Ethan Chapman. She is also survived by her brother, James Dalzell, and his daughter Lauren Dalzell (Justin), sister-in-law Sylvia Blake and her daughter Jennifer Collins (Chad) and their son Porter Collins and her son Ben Blake.
Marylou is deeply loved by her friends and family, and her smile and laugh will be missed forever.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, May 23rd, from 3:00-4:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home, with a memorial service immediately following.
