Mary Nell Adams Gipson passed from this life after a brief medical struggle, on April 19, 2026. She is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alvin Clay Gipson and oldest son Danny Gipson, her parents Rev. Denton and Leola Adams and brother Jimmy Adams.
She is survived by her son and his wife, Steve and Paula Hollingsworth Gipson, daughter-in-law Cathy Helton Gipson, grandchildren: Stacy Hagood (Steve), Dusty Gipson (Lauren), Brittany Gipson, Seth Gipson (Rachael) and Noah Gipson. Great grandchildren are Dylan Gipson, Logan Gipson, Molly Gipson, Cash Pence, Presley Pence, and Harper Gipson. and sisters Wanda Adams Gipson and Paulette Adams Fanning along with a host of nieces and nephews and extended family.
Mary Nell met the love of her life at Pleas Mount Baptist Church, where her father was the pastor. After graduating from New Hope High School, Alvin and Mary Nell married on July 29, 1955, and she became a permanent resident of the Killingsworth Cove Community near Gurley. Mary Nell was a homemaker, a solid citizen and supporter of her boy’s school activities. She faithfully attended Pleas Mount Baptist Church where she taught children’s Sunday School for many years and served on the Hostess Committee, until health issues prevented her from attending services. She loved Southern Gospel music and her Bill Gaither Gospel videos. She will be greatly missed by her friends and family, who are thankful that she is no longer suffering.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Berryhill Funeral Home from 5–8 PM on Wednesday, April 22 and funeral services will be in the Berryhill Funeral Home Chapel at 11 AM on Thursday, April 23, 2026. Rev. Paul Johnson will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Killingsworth Cove Volunteer Fire Department
