Mary Ruth Hester, 85, of Huntsville, passed away February 26, 2026.

Mary Ruth Hester was born in Dayton, Tennessee on July 29, 1940 to parents Ruth Franklin Hester and Charles Elston Hester. The family moved to North Alabama in the 40's and to Florence, where she graduated from Coffee High School. She created an avid interest in music becoming an accomplished flute and piccolo player as a member of the band. She continued her music interest as a member of the Florence State College (UNA) band and graduated in early 60s. Upon graduation she moved to Huntsville where she was employed as a
Mathematician at Redstone Arsenal.

In Huntsville, she became a member of the Huntsville Symphony, until in the mid 60s she was disabled by a car accident after which she remained in her beloved Huntsville for the rest of her life. She was active in many community activities and attended First Methodist Church. She was a Futurist and was a member of the World Future Society and L5 society.

Mary is survived by a sister, Charlotte Blair of Florence, a brother, Charles F. Hester of Huntsville, and several nephews and nieces. A

Memorial service with the family is planned and any remembrances and donations should be sent Northwood and First Methodist Church charities.
