Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Irene Knight, who left us on April 15, 2025, at the age of 77. Irene was born on September 29, 1947, in Huntsville, AL. Irene was the love of my life for 34 years, we were married. Our life's adventure started out with our country music wedding on the banks of the Tennessee River on Redstone Arsenal and our honeymoon through New York, Niagara Falls, across Canada, and back home down through Michigan back to Alabama.

She was survived by her husband, Larry Knight, her three sons, Michael Durham, Tony Durham, and Steve Durham, who have lived with her all their lives and have special needs. We enjoyed our love for church and got together our gospel group called The New Beginning. We really enjoyed our Gospel singing for many years together. She and I did a song for Church two weeks before God called her home.

Most of all, we enjoyed our family; her 3 sons, Michael, Tony, and Steve, and my two sons, Tim Knight, and his family; wife Chris, my grandsons, Justin, Tyler, Kyle, and Nathan, granddaughters, Nicki, Molly and Casey, and my son Rusty. She was Nanny to Kashton, Kingland, and so many more nieces and nephews. Irene was a mother to dearly loved Delisa Logan, Dallas Logan, and Jessica Logan. They were her pride and joy, and very special to her.

She is also survived by two sisters, Carol Adams and Paula Licketto, and two brothers, Rickey Sharp and Johnny Sharp, all of Huntsville, AL. Multiple nieces and nephews, and lots of granddaughters and grandsons. Lisa Logan (niece), mother of Jessica Logan and grandmother of Jessica's two children, Kashton and Kinglan, always called Irene Nanna and Larry Papa. Irene loved them and had them both every time she had a chance. They were always at church with her. She also enjoyed our 30 great-grandchildren dearly. She also had a lot of cousins who adored her and loved each one like her sisters and brothers.

Irene's greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was a loving soul with lots of love to give. She was a Christian and loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  She was a member of the Crossroads Freewill Baptist Church in Toney, Alabama.  I know she is rejoicing in HEAVEN now with her family and loved ones who have gone on.

Irene's passing leaves a void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her wisdom, warmth, and unwavering dedication to her family and community will be sorely missed. As we come together to mourn her loss, we also celebrate the incredible life she led and the countless lives she touched.

She will be dearly missed, but she will continue to inspire and guide us. Rest in peace, our beautiful Sister, Mother, and Wife. We know that you went to heaven shouting, "I'm home," and into my Savior's loving arms.
