IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melissa Moore
Wilson
September 16, 1968 – August 17, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Melissa Olivia Moore Wilson, age 56, of Huntsville, Alabama. Missy transitioned from this world to the next on August 17, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Missy was born Sept. 16, 1968 to Richard and Margaret Moore. Raised in Albertville, Alabama, she loved camping, travel, music, and serving others.
She graduated from Albertville High School in 1987, where she played clarinet in the Albertville Aggie band and marched in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York. She began college at the University of Montevallo. After two years, she transferred to the University of Alabama, where she was active in the Wesley Foundation and marched in the Million Dollar Band. She graduated with a B.A. in Communication. Following graduation Missy explored several career paths before earning a B.S. in Education from Athens State University. The center of Missy's life was her faith in Jesus Christ. She soon became a beloved preschool teacher at Whitesburg Baptist Church in Huntsville, where her passion for children left a lasting impact.
In July 2001, she married the love of her life, Jeffrey David Wilson at Albertville First United Methodist Church. They lived in Huntsville, enjoying hiking, beach trips, and cruises to the Caribbean and Alaska.
In 2014 the Lord blessed the couple with Laura Grace Wilson. A natural mother, Missy devoted herself to raising their precious daughter, who has brought them so much joy.
Friends remember Missy as warm and generous, with a sense of humor. She had an innate gift to be loved by children, the elderly, and dogs, who all sensed her sweet acceptance of them.
Missy was an active member of Whitesburg Baptist Church. She was continually involved in Bible studies at Whitesburg Baptist Church and Asbury Church. She believed life was best lived in service to her Lord Jesus Christ, and she shared His light with everyone she encountered.
Missy was welcomed into heaven by her father, Richard Moore, who passed away just two weeks before her.
She is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Wilson; daughter, Laura Wilson; mother, Margaret Moore; brother, David Moore (Valerie); father-in-law David Wilson; mother-in-law Susan Wilson; sister-in-law Julie Goldston (Mike); nephew Noah Moore; and nieces Haley Moore, Olivia Goldston, and Amelia Goldston.
A Celebration of Life for Missy will be held at the Whitesburg Baptist South Campus Chapel on September 6, with visitation 1-2 and service following. A joint Celebration of Lives for Missy and her father Richard will also be held at Albertville First Methodist Church on September 13, with visitation 1-2 and service following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shepherd's Cove Hospice of Marshall County (408 Martling Rd., Albertville, AL 35951), Second Chance Dog Shelter (130 County Rd. 398, Boaz, AL 35957), or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (ALSAC/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105).
But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint. (Isaiah 40:31)
