Michael Barry Cruthird, 71, passed away peacefully on his birthday, August 21, 2025, in Huntsville, Alabama.

Born in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1954, Michael lived a life marked by dedication: to his country, his community, and above all, his family. He proudly served as a Captain in the United States Air Force, exemplifying leadership and service. After his military career, Michael returned to Mississippi to be closer to family. There, he devoted himself to public service as the District Coordinator of Early Intervention with the Mississippi State Department of Health, working tirelessly to support the development and well-being of young children across the state.

Michael earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and later received his Master's degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was a lifelong Rebel fan, cheering passionately for Ole Miss sports and proudly supporting the University of Mississippi throughout his life.

Michael had many passions besides sports, food and education chief among them. He was always ready to try new things in the kitchen or talk at length about some scientific or historical topic to anyone eager to learn, and he especially loved sharing these hobbies with his family. A deeply devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he found his greatest joy in time spent with loved ones.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sheila Shaw Cruthird; his children, Allison Cruthird Cash and Christopher Cruthird; their spouses, Jeremy Cash and Laura Anne Galway respectively; his brother, Gerald Cruthird; and his grandchildren: Tristan Cash, Alexis Cash, and Merriweather Cruthird.

Michael was also a lifelong, highly regular blood donor. In his memory, donations to local blood banks or organizations supporting blood donation would be a meaningful tribute to his legacy of generosity and care.

His life will be honored in a private family service. The family extends heartfelt thanks to all who have offered their love and support.
