Michael Douglas Porter, 64, of Taft, TN died Saturday, August 29.

A graduate of Johnson High School and Athens State University, Michael was a retired civil servant supporting the U.S. Army.

He kept bees, a garden, and would drop whatever he was doing to help anyone, no matter the hour. He was a man of humility, great kindness and sly wit. Michael prized his family and his farm, and was happiest when all were gathered around a table of good food with stories to share.

He was a long-time, active member of the Taft Church of Christ, and led Bible study classes.

He was a founding member of the Lincoln County Beekeepers Association.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Alberta Anderson Porter.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; two daughters, Kate and Sarah Porter; his father James Porter of Huntsville, brother Patrick Porter and two nephews, Cody and Cole Porter, all of Huntsville; and sister-in-law Kay Taylor of Taft.

Services for Michael will be Friday, Sept. 4 at Berryhill Funeral Home, Huntsville, AL, with visitation at 3 p.m. and service at 4 p.m.
