Myrna Arlene
Akers
January 4, 1938 – April 22, 2026
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Myrna Arlane Akers on April 22, 2026, at the age of 88, surrounded by family. Myrna was the daughter of Martin and Freda (Fritzi) Goldstein. Myrna was born and raised in The Bronx, New York, along with her sister and best friend, Felice Goldstein. Myrna married the love of her life Jackie, where they lived for many years in Meridianville Alabama. Myrna would tell everyone she was “lucky to have married the most amazing man I ever met Jackie, and my life immeasurably changed the day I met him”.
Myrna lived a life marked by compassion, strength, and deep devotion to her family. She spent her final years exactly as she lived the rest: full of grit, humor, faith, and just the right amount of SASS. Myrna’s interests included being with her friends at bingo, beauty parlor, casinos, and girls get away trips.
She is survived by husband Jackie Max Akers, and her son (Cherub #1) David Somach and daughter-in-law Charlotte Somach, and son (Cherub #2) Robert Swartz III. She was also a cherished grandmother to two wonderful grandchildren: Mitchell Somach and Cheyenne Soumaya. Myrna’s additional loving family includes: brother-in-law Bill Akers, sister-in-law Peggy Abner and husband Virgil Abner, sister-in-law Kay Ford, and sister-in- law Janice Lewis, and nieces and nephews: Dwayne and Joyce Lewis, Jeffery and Theresa Akers, Alan and Gus Abner, Michael Ford, and Frankie Ford. Proceeded in death by: Gregory Akers, Cindi Abner, and Vicki Ford
Our family will always remember her as a wonderful person who lit up every room she entered,” or “Her kindness and joy were gifts that touched everyone around her.” Such memories help keep her spirit present and allow those left behind to celebrate the beautiful life she led.
In lieu of flowers and cards, contributions in Myrna’s memory may be made to support the Shriners Children’s Hospital or the SPCA Animal Rescue Shelters.
