Opal Lackey Kepner, age 87, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on October 27, 2026. Growing up in Scottsboro, Alabama, Opal was the seventh of ten children born to the late Dewey and Annie Lackey. Opal spent her entire career working at Redstone Arsenal and was a long-time and faithful member of Maysville Church of Christ in Gurley, Alabama.

Opal is survived by her husband of 58 years, Andy Kepner, and her daughter Andrea Kepner. She is also survived by her sisters Addie Ruth Cottis of Hueytown, AL, and Martha Duelene Griggs of Scottsboro, AL, as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Ann Kepner; her parents Dewey and Annie Lackey; sisters Louise Bellomy (Roy) and Virginia Sanders (Mac); brothers George Lackey, Dee Lackey (Patty Sue), Cecil Lackey (Marjorie), Robert Lackey (Annie Mae), and Delbert Lackey (Shirley); and brothers-in-law Jack Cottis and Leonard Griggs.

Visitation will be on Sunday, November 1, from 1:00-2:00 pm at Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, AL. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the Berryhill Funeral Home Chapel. Kirk Griggs will be conducting the service. Burial will follow in Valhalla Memory Gardens.
