IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Key
Deasy
October 10, 1944 – August 10, 2025
Patricia Key was born on October 10, 1944, and passed away on August 10, 2025, at the age of 80. She was the 5th daughter born to Henry and Florence Key, and was their only daughter born in a hospital. Their home was at the center of the small community of South Tunnel, Tennessee. In 1906, Pat's grandfather deeded the land beside their family home for $1 to the Elders of Bush's Chapel Church of Christ. A building was built in 1939, which still stands and has an active congregation today. Land for a graveyard was also donated, and it lies between their family home and the church building.
Pat spent her summers carefree in the country, climbing trees, playing in the woods with her cousin Gilbert, and was always singing. She loved animals and had many cats, ducks, and even raised a baby squirrel.
Pat attended the elementary school across the street from her home and would go home to eat lunch with her mother. She graduated from Gallatin High School in 1962 and soon after married her high school sweetheart, Mike Deasy. They celebrated 62 years together last December.
Pat continued singing and in 1970, through various connections, was introduced to Curly Putman, Chet Atkins, and eventually Floyd Cramer. She was a singer and a writer for RCA and recorded many singles over the next five years, some of which topped the charts as high as 13th. She performed on the Grand Ole Opry ten times. Pat's days with RCA ended when she did not renew her contract. Life on the road was not family-friendly nor an atmosphere conducive for a Christian life. Pat and Mike had a young son, so this decision suited them. She later recorded songs with Floyd Cramer, and they developed a lifelong friendship.
Pat excelled as a homemaker for her remaining years. She was a wonderful cook. She entertained and fed many people over the years, making every meal a special event. She also enjoyed traveling to England and took many trips over the decades. Pat loved working in her beautiful garden reminiscent of an English Garden, and decorating her home in an elegant Williamsburg style. Being creative in nature, she painted and continued to write songs. She wrote several church songs, her favorite being "How Long, Oh God". Pat was active in her church by teaching through the years; being involved in the World Bible School; helping with a jail ministry similar to WBS; and was a member of Dorcus, which is a sewing group that sews bears for children in need of comfort. She enjoyed family time and being a Meemaw to her grandsons and great-granddaughters.
Pat is survived by her husband Mike Deasy, son Kevin Deasy (Katey), two grandsons, Drew and Chad (Ellen), and two great-granddaughters, Addy and Dakota.
Visitation will be at Berryhill Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14, from 10:00 to 11:00, with the funeral following at 11:00. A private graveside service will be held at Bush's Chapel at 4:00 for family.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to one of Pat's favorite charities, Potter Children's Home and Family Ministries at www.potterministries.org Thank you for loving Pat, too.
