Obituary

Patricia Fay Williams Pope was born on March 5, 1945, in Memphis, TN. She was the firstborn of John and Dorothy Williams. She didn’t get to enjoy her only - child status for long, with the arrival of her siblings: Steve, Eileen, and John. However, Pat readily adopted her new role as “Big Sister”, a role she cherished for her entire life. At 19, she met the love of her life, Alex Pope, at a church pancake breakfast. Little did she know that she’d be making buckwheat pancakes for Alex for the rest of her life. They were married in 1966 and moved to Huntsville, AL, where Alex worked for Boeing on the Saturn V program. In 1967, they were blessed with their first son, Brian. They didn’t stay in Hun tsville very long, and next moved to Memphis, where they were equally blessed with the birth of their younger son, Greg. Over the course of their marriage, they moved around a lot due to Alex’s engineering career. They lived in Ft. Wayne & Indianapolis, IN; Blacksburg & Roanoke, VA; Dyersburg & Memphis, TN; and ultimately made Huntsville their retirement home.

Pat was very talented and held a wide variety of jobs throughout her life. She worked at the telephone company, the Board of Education, in office support for a construction company, as a merchandiser for American Greeting Cards, as a very successful realt or, as a highly talented seamstress with her own business, and as an associate at a prominent clothing retailer. Outside of her employment, she generously volunteered her time and talents in her church and community. One great example was her role in the Secret’s ministry at Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, where she mentored young women in some of today’s lost arts of cooking, sewing, and many other practical homemaking skills. She also volunteered at her children’s schools. She made Whitesburg Baptist her church home in Huntsville.

Although she was proficient at many things, her first love was caring for and nurturing her family. This giving nature and loving attitude toward others clearly reflected Christ’s influence in her life. Her phenomenal cooking skills led to many memorable family gatherings and recipes that we still enjoy. She loved being surrounded by her family, especially her 5 cherished grandkids: Daniel, Timothy, Ally, Samuel, & Cadesman. She was also very engaged with her nieces and nephews: Krista, Lisa, Steven, Michael; David, Lisa, Micaela; Elisabeth, Katherine, James; A.J., Mila, Nico; Andrew, Abigail; Ella; Owen; Emilee, Lauren, Joy; Mikey; Beau, Camille, Joelle.

Pat is survived by her husband, Alex, of nearly 60 years, her son, Brian, her son, Greg, & his wife, Cindi, her brother, Steve, & his wife, Mary Ann, her sister Eileen, her brother, John, & his wife, Karen, her brother-in-law David, and his wife, Lawre Nell, and her sister-in-law, Phyllis.

She had a loving impact on everyone she met, and when it was time for her to be with Jesus, she left this life on September 30, 2026, as prepared and organized as she lived it.

Services will be held in Huntsville at Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus Chapel, 7300 Whitesburg Drive on Monday, October 5, 2026. Visitation will be at 11 am, followed by a service at noon. Additionally, there will be a service on Saturday, October 10, 2026, in Memphis at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, with visitation at noon and a graveside service and internment at 1 pm.
