Obituary

Paul Randy Maack, 75, of Huntsville, passed away November 21, 2025.

Visitation will be Tuesday, November 25th from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home.  Service will be Wednesday, November 26th at 11:00 AM at Pleasant Grove Holiness Church in Woodville, followed by burial at Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

At 17 years of age, three days after finishing high school, Paul left his home in La Crosse, Wisconsin, to join the Marine Corps.  He became and remained the epitome of the Marine, strong and fearless, never hesitating to do what had or needed to be done. After two, back-to-back tours in Vietnam, he was honorably discharged.  A few years later, Paul began a career in law enforcement, serving in the US Army.  From Arizona, to Berlin Germany, back to Arizona, Ft McClellan and Huntsville, Alabama; Heidelberg, Germany, San Francisco, California, other parts of the world, Paul served as a member of an elite group within the US Army.  During that time, he participated in covert operations related to drugs, working with enforcement agencies from foreign countries, as well as within the US.  He investigated general crimes committed within his assigned duty stations, assisted other law enforcement agencies, when necessary, as well as provided protective service to US dignitaries traveling the world.  He did what had to be done.  After retiring from military service, Paul worked with the Alabama WIC program and as a police officer at Redstone Arsenal.  Many fast drivers were happy when he retired. Despite his reputation for always issuing a traffic ticket, he had a heart of gold.  Many young, military detainees were fortunate when he was working the desk. They were sent on their way with money to buy something to eat or with a coat or sweater from his or his wife's closet.  He took care of them.

He loved his law enforcement family.  Likewise, he loved his family and was a loving and active participate in every way; once again, doing what had to be done … even laundry.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Myra Nadine Maack, and the following:

Son Nicholas Maack, his wife Audrey and their children Noah, Jackson and Evelyn. (Huntsville Ala)

Son Hans Tanke, his wife Nicole, and their children Hannah and Anika. (Oak Creek, Wisconsin)

Daughter Stephanie Maack (wife of deceased son Philip Maack) and their children Stephanie and Samantha.  (Queen Creek, Arizona)

Brothers Ronnie Summerfeld, Clarence Maack, and Jeffrey Maack (La Crosse, Wisconsin)

Sisters Paulette Maack, Julie Siddens, Jennifer Anderson, and Melanie Maack (La Crosse Wisconsin)

He was preceded in death by his Father Clarence Maack and Mother, Mildred Miller Maack; his son Philip Maack, and two sisters, Barbara Shugart and Carol Wenzel.
