Obituary

Paul Thomas Putman passed away on May 5, 2025 at the age of 80. Paul was born on September 8, 1944 in Lexington, Alabama, to James and Virgie (nee Brown) Putman. Paul graduated Lexington High School. He then attended Florence State College (now the University of North Alabama) where he graduated with an accounting degree after just three years. While attending Florence State College, Paul met Carol Bonner, and the two were wed on June 11, 1966. To this union were born son John and daughter Ginger.

Paul earned his CPA license shortly thereafter and began his professional career with a brief stint as a civil servant before entering private practice, which culminated with a longstanding partnership, Putman and Blackwell.

Paul, Carol, and their children attended Jackson Way Baptist Church in Huntsville, Alabama as members for many years. Paul later joined Holmes Street United Methodist Church where he faithfully attended and served God and his fellow man until his declining health prevented his participation.

Paul greatly enjoyed hunting (various fowl) with longtime friends, working on his farm land, stock-market trading, and listening to Johnny Cash (among other favorites). Paul was a devoted, supportive, and loving grandfather who took pride in his grandchildren's character and work ethic and genuinely enjoyed their unique personalities. He never smiled or laughed more than he did when interacting with them. Paul was also a personally generous man who substantially supported without public fanfare many worthy causes and needy individuals over several decades.

Preceding him in joining the Lord are his father James Putman and his mother Virgie Putman; wife Carol Putman; sisters Verlie (Euel) Harvey, Edith (C.W.) Curtis, Ruby (Lonnie) McClusky, Delores (Sanford) Wilson, and Nora (James) Wilson.

Paul is survived by son John (Michelle) Putman; daughter Ginger (John) Spitzmiller; grandchildren Sarah and Sophie Spitzmiller, Hayley (Connor) Doehrman, and Ethan (Cobi) Sanderson; great grandchildren Ryder and Walker Doehrman; brothers Don (Linda) and Troy (Betty Carol) Putman; sister Ruth Newton; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider donating to Jackson Way Baptist Church's Child Development Center to continue Paul's legacy of support to an organization long dear to his heart.

Funeral services are under the direction of Berryhill Funeral Home in Huntsville, Alabama.
