Obituary

Peggy Ann McAnally Phillips, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with vascular dementia, Parkinson's disease, and breast cancer.

A daughter of the late Roy Clifton McAnally and Nannie Bell Hornbuckle McAnally, she was a native of Madison County, Alabama, born on September 2, 1936. Shortly after her birth, her family settled in the Vanntown and Flintville, Tennessee farming community — a place that shaped her childhood and remained close to her heart throughout her life.

She grew up among the cotton fields, surrounded by family, neighbors, and the Baptist church community of believers. She carried with her always the values she learned there: hard work, Christian faith, and kindness.

Peggy graduated from Flintville High School as part of the Class of 1954, where she played on the ladies' basketball team throughout her high school years. Her roots in that community, and the friendships she formed there, stayed with her for decades.

In 1955, on the lawn of the Madison County Courthouse where the U.S. Army was administering public typing exams, Peggy was hired and began her long civil-service career. She served as a Secretary, Executive Administrative Assistant, and Protocol Officer on Redstone Arsenal, Alabama, supporting multiple U.S. Army organizations until her retirement in 1995. Balancing work and children, she was a devoted and loving mother who cherished both of her children.

She faced her multiple illnesses with remarkable strength and grace, supported by the love of her daughter, Tracy Ann Phillips, and her son, Charles Brent Phillips, along with his wife, Camille Marie Phillips, who served as her caregivers for nearly six years. Her life was defined not by the challenges she endured but by the warmth she shared, the steadiness of her presence, and the quiet resilience that guided her through every season.

Survivors include her children, Charles Brent Phillips and Tracy Ann Phillips; her daughter-in-law, Camille Marie Phillips; six grandchildren, Samantha James (Jason James), Carol Phillips, Hunter Phillips, Anna Williams (Nickolas Williams), Shea McClure, and Jayln McClure; and six great-grandchildren, Ariel Downer, Blake Banks, Carson Bell, Connor Bell, Jocie Housh, and Iris Linares; all of whom brought her great joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita McAnally; her brother Thomas Clifton McAnally, and sister-in-law Joanne Wells McAnally.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, 412 Vanntown Rd, Flintville, TN 37335.

"Let not your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father's home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? When everything is ready, I will come and get you, so that you will always be with me where I am." — John 14:1–3
