Obituary

Phillip Ross Childers, 86, passed away peacefully September 17,2025.  A Jasper native, Phil was raised in Birmingham.  He was a US Marine and also in the Coast Guard.  He had three children from his first wife: Andy (LeeAnn), Dawn (Chris) and Mark.  He moved to Atlanta where he met the true love of his life: Jane Lance Burnett.  Jane brought her only son, Tony Burnette, into the family and Andy, Dawn and Mark gained a big brother; not a step-brother.  Jane and her family welcomed Phil's children from his first wife and Phil's and his family welcomed Jane and Tony into their family. Jane and Phil were married for fifty seven years.

Phil was not very demonstrative and could be a snitch prickly, but showed his affection by helping people out.  He had worked on numerous houses of family members and friends, from rewiring a house to building a deck.  He was also a skilled amateur mechanic and fixed many a car for family and friends.  Even as adults, Phil was very close to his parents and sisters, and was equally close to his brother-in-law Bill McConnell.

Phil is survived by his wife Jane, his sister Pam Wingo, his three children , grandchildren and great grandchildren and a best friend/adoptive son Mike Lewis Bran.  A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to American Heart Association.

No services are planned at this time. Berryhill Funeral Home assisted the family.
