IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Randal Frank
Cannon
December 18, 1962 – January 18, 2026
Randal Frank "Randy" Cannon was born on December 18, 1962, in Memphis, TN and passed away in the presence of his family on January 18, 2026.
Randy's 20-year battle with cancer was hard fought, yet he refused to let his diagnosis define his spirit or diminish his joy for life. A man of great faith, Randy deeply loved his family and cherished time spent with them at the beach, camping, skiing, or sipping whiskey by the fire. He was an active and devoted grandfather, and his favorite title was "Popzie".
Randy was an adventurer and a man on-the-go, who loved to travel and try new things. He was a master of the grill, famous among family and
friends for his barbecue and the memories made around it.
Randy was the son of Frank and June Cannon. He worked for the United States Army as an engineer for 38 years, eventually retiring in 2025. He was a member of the Serial Grillers competition BBQ team, where they placed 1st or 2nd at Memphis in May on five separate occasions. Randy was an avid whiskey and bourbon collector, often traveling all across the country to pursue his passion and the stories behind each bottle. Sports were one of his great pleasures and he enjoyed everything from wrestling and golf to football and baseball. He never missed a chance to cheer on the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Memphis Tigers, the Atlanta Braves, or the Seattle Seahawks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and June Cannon. He is survived by his loving wife, Shelly Cannon; children: Samuel (Olivia), Blake (Wynn), Andrew (Alissa), Anna-Katherine (Dawson), and Jon Michael; and his four grandchildren. Randy is also survived by his sisters, Christy (Walter) Smalley and Paula (Michael) Lippert, and 18 nieces/ nephews.
Randy was a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in our hearts for the love he so freely gave and the light he brought to the lives around him. We are thankful for the hope in Jesus Christ that we will one day meet again in
Heaven.
A memorial service in celebration of Randy's life will be held for family and friends on Friday, January 30th at 10 AM in the Sanctuary at Cove Church, 366 Old Highway 431, Owens Cross Roads, AL.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Randy's home church (Cove Church) or a cancer institute of your choice. Thank you.
