Rhonda Cochran Bass passed peacefully on September 16th 2026 in Winchester, Tennessee after a life devoted to her family and the many people fortunate enough to know her.

Rhonda Cochran Bass was born on October 1, 1949, in Seymour, Indiana to Virgil Phelps and Maxine Cumberworth. She grew up in Huntsville, Alabama and graduated from Butler High School in 1967.

Rhonda earned her bachelor’s degree from Jacksonville State University in elementary education, a master’s degree from Georgia State University in Education and dedicated her professional journey to teaching. She taught elementary students in Georgia, Alabama, and Florida through the years. She retired from teaching in 1998. Her passion was helping young boys and girls develop the skills and confidence that would shape them into successful students and remarkable individuals later in life.

Rhonda married Stephen Daniel Bass on December 21st,1975 at Holmes Street Methodist Church in Huntsville, Alabama. Stephen and Rhonda raised their children in multiple states before finally settling in to their long term home in Orange Park, Florida in 1983.

Following retirement she relocated back to Huntsville, Alabama area in 1999. Rhonda and her husband Steve, loved to travel, particularly to Las Vegas where her family and her friends can recall some of their fondest memories of her. Rhonda loved all types of music, animals, and just spending time at home with family during holidays. With her laughter, warmth, and an unforgettable smile, she was always the life of the party and brought joy to every gathering.

Rhonda is survived by her husband, Stephen Bass of New Market, Alabama, and her sons, Joshua Bass and John Bass of Huntsville, Alabama, and many loving friends and family members. She will be deeply missed by many, but she will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life for Rhonda will be held October 1st, 2026, her birthday, at 214 Sunset Hill Trail, New Market, AL 35761 at 6:00 PM CST. Guests for the memorial may begin to arrive at 5:20 PM.
