Rita Rogers Majors, 76, of Huntsville, AL passed away August 5, 2026 surrounded by her beloved family.

Born on January 27, 1950 in Athens, Alabama, Rita was the beloved daughter of William T. Rogers and Elizabeth Jane Fleming both who preceded her in death. Rita leaves behind the love of her life, her devoted husband Almon Majors Jr, her son Robert Lavezzi, daughter-in-law Tracey Lavezzi, and her adored granddaughter Aubrey Lavezzi. She leaves behind her brother, Stanley Rogers, his wife Robin Rogers; and her four cherished sisters, Virginia Darmer, Barbara Arden and husband Jerry, Deborah Strain, and Mavis Thornton and husband Tron Mascow as well as several nieces and nephews who will all miss her dearly. 

Rita was a retired civil servant who supported the military in Saudi Arabia and at Redstone Arsenal.

Rita was a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution, and The United Daughters of the Confederacy. She spent her life learning about her heritage and curating her lineage. Rita was extremely proud of her Native American Heritage and even became the Principal Chief of the Echota Cherokee Tribe of Alabama. 

Rita was a talented seamstress. She made dozens of historically accurate menswear and women's wear styles and her work can be seen in the opening credits for the movie “Dead Birds,” where she walks across the scene in a dress she designed and made.

Though she will be deeply missed, her fearless love, her love for everything festive, and her strong sense of family will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones. She loved having friends and family around her table and in her home.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 9, 2026 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with Chapel Service Monday, August 10, 2026 at 11:00 m at Berryhill Funeral Home.

Burial at Maple Hill Cemetery to follow.
