It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Edmund Larson, who passed on SEP 13, 2026, at the age of 100. Robert was born on NOV 15, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, to Charles Edmund Larson and Inga Anderson Larson. His parents immigrated to the United States from Sweden as teenagers in search of greater opportunities. His father worked as a machinist; his mother worked as a housekeeper. Through hard work, determination, and sacrifice, they established a strong foundation for their family in this new country.

Robert had a long and meaningful life marked by dedication to his family, hard work, perseverance, and determination. He carried values instilled in him by his parents and passed those values on to future generations.

He is survived by his 3 children: Laura Harbour, Charles (Beverly) Larson and Gerald Larson; 9 grandchildren: Rob, Kristen, Carl (Elishaba), Linnea (Adam Williams), Kevin (Lauren), Jessica, Shannon, Devon and Alex; 9 great-grandchildren: Drake Sandifer, Chase, Anna, Elsa, Clark, Mary Beth, Gary, Liam and Shelby.

He is preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Martha.

Robert was an engineer who spent the majority of his career doing research and development on various missile systems as well as testing and evaluation of completed missile systems, including the Falcon, TOW, and Phoenix programs.

He served in the Army Air Corps during the last stages of World War 2, learning how to fly airplanes including the B-17. He was always very proud of his service to his country.

During his retirement, Robert greatly enjoyed playing golf and bridge at the Turtle Point Country Club in Florence, Alabama.

Robert’s century of life allowed him to witness extraordinary changes in the world, yet his greatest accomplishment remains the devoted family he raised and the values he passed on through generations. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

The family appreciates the thoughts, prayers, and support of friends and loved ones at this time. A memorial service will be held at Guntersville First Methodist Church on Friday (OCT 2) at 2:00 PM; pastor Chris Stallings will be officiating.
