Obituary

Reverend Roy Junior Walls, 90, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family at his residence in Lacey's Spring. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Roy was raised in the Big Cove and Owens Crossroads communities. At a young age he married Joyce Ann Lovvorn who passed shortly after their union. In 1955, he married Nellie Faye Lawson. Together, they raised their two beloved children, Susie Drake and Darryl Walls, until her passing. In 1980, he married his surviving wife, Judy Catlett, from which he gained four step children, Ronald Catlett, Joseph Catlett, Julie Butler, and Jeanne (Tracy) Shields. Roy was blessed with three granddaughters, Crystal, Morgan, and Karissa, and three grandsons, Zeb, Jared, and Jacob, who all affectionately called him Pawpaw. Roy had 14 great grandchildren at the time of his passing.

Including wives, Joyce and Faye, Roy is preceded in death by parents Joe and Stella; step mother Lella Mae; sisters Daisy Simmons, Mable Levi, Floy Hindman, Virginia Pinkerton, Opal McGrady; brothers Bill, Paul, Billy Ray, Harry, Maurice Walls; step sons Ronnie and Joey Catlett.

Including his wife, Judy, Roy is survived by children, Darryl and Susie; step daughters, Sissy and Boo (Tracy); his grandchildren and great grandchildren; sisters Stella (Jimmy) Steakley, Loretta Walls; brothers Troy (Teresa) and Wayne (Sandra) Walls; sister-in-law Teresa Vickers Walls.

Roy worked as a truck driver for nearly 60 years and enjoyed being behind the wheel whether it was in a semi or his little Toyota Camry. Post retirement, Roy loved to be outside working around the house, tending the garden, mowing, or riding his tractor. However, his passion and greatest work was the life he lived for the Lord. Roy received the Holy Ghost on June 11, 1955, and grew strong in the Faith. For 70 years, he dedicated his life to God by going to Church, praying for the sick, helping the needy, attending revivals and gospel singings, and preaching the Gospel. Bro. Roy attended several Holiness Churches throughout his life from Indiana to Alabama some of which he helped to get established at the time of their starting. For nearly the last 30 years, he served as the founding Pastor of Union Grove Free Holiness Church. Bro. Roy was a beloved father in the Lord who sought after the care of so many Children of God. He will be remembered by so many as a great spiritual help, teacher, mentor, and friend.

Officiating services will be Brothers Jared Shields, James Bridges, Edward Atchley, and Mark Teet (graveside). Special thanks are given to the staff at Shepherd's Cove Hospice and all those who offered support, prayers, food, and any other tokens of love.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 7th, from 6:00-8:00 PM and Saturday, November 8th from 8:30 AM - 1:00 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home. The funeral service will take place Saturday beginning at 1:00 PM, with the burial following at Maple Hill Cemetery.
