Obituary

Russell Joseph Cullen, age 73, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family after a courageous battle with illness.

Born on February 14, 1952, in Boston, Massachusetts, Russell was known for his kind heart, strong work ethic, and deep love for his family and his Lord. A proud Bostonian at heart, he was a passionate and devoted fan of the Patriots and the Red Sox, taking his love of sports seriously and sharing it with everyone around him.

Russell's faith was central to his life. He and his beloved wife, Jo Carol Cullen, of over 23 years, shared daily devotions and worshipped Jesus together, building a marriage filled with love, faith, and unwavering commitment. He adored Jo Carol and their life together, and his devotion to her was evident to everyone who knew them.

Russell was a talented craftsman who took great joy in his woodworking, creating beautiful pieces for others that now grace the homes of his loved ones. He poured his heart into his craft, giving generously of his time and talent. He also worked at Vanderhoof Roofing as a manager for many years, where he was known as a hardworking, dependable, and valued member of his work family — relationships he truly cherished.

Russell cherished the strong bonds he shared with his five sisters, who were not only his family but also his lifelong friends. They shared countless laughs, lighthearted teasing, and unwavering support for each other over the years — a connection he held close to his heart throughout his life.

Russell was deeply proud of his children and grandchildren, always letting them know how much he loved them and raising his family to lead with love and kindness. He took great joy in spending time with his grandchildren, sharing his stories, his laughter, and his quiet strength.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo Carol Cullen; three sisters; seven children and their spouses; and his ten beloved grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two of his sisters.

Russell was also deeply generous, supporting St. Jude Children's Research Hospital throughout his life. In his memory, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's, a cause close to his heart.

Russell will be remembered for his faith, his love for his family and friends, his talents, his passion for sports, woodworking and his way of making everyone feel special. His love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

"It's your world now.
My race is run.
I'm moving on, like the setting sun.
No regrets, no tears goodbye.
Don't ask why — it's your world now."
