Obituary

Russell Adams Hunter Jr., 77, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away at home on Saturday, April 12, 2025.

Russ was born in New Haven, Connecticut on February 8, 1948 to Marian King and Russell Adams Hunter. Russ served in the United States Army entering in 1970 and retiring in 1991. During his time in service, Russ served in many roles culminating as a Senior Instructor Pilot in the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. While there, he was instrumental in the development of Chinook helicopter aerial refueling capability in the mid to late 1980s.

Russ is the recipient of the Legion of Merit, the Army Air Medal with "V" device, and the Joint Service Commendation Medal.

After his retirement, he was a program manager for several firms in Huntsville, AL.

Russ is survived by his wife of 27 years, Tracy F. Hunter; his children and their spouses, Cheryl Hunter and Frank Callis, Samantha Ondrusek, Erin and George Morrison, Tom and Emily Fessenden; his grandchildren, Nicholas Morrison, Evan Morrison, Aubrey Morrison, Rudy Hunter-Grah, and Alina Hunter-Grah.

Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19 at Berryhill Funeral Home. Service and burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date and time.

In lieu of flowers, guests can make donations to the Night Stalker Association-Huntsville Scholarship Fund .
