Sandra Jean
Lawrence
August 28, 1962 – May 15, 2023
Sandra "Sandy" Jean McCarley Lawrence, 60, passed away on May 15, 2023, surrounded by loved ones in Huntsville, Ala.
Sandy was preceded in death by her father Albert Junior McCarley and her mother Virginia McCarley Watts. She is survived by her husband, Howard Berryhill; daughters Tara Chandler and Ali (Steven) Wheatley; son Jeremy Chandler; sister Darlene Mantei; stepdaughters Susan Berryhill, Kim Berryhill, and Paige Berryhill; grandchildren Logan, Jackson, Lettie, Everly, and Virginia; and step-grandchildren Chase, Brenna, Bryan, Trinity, and Jeremy.
Born on August 28, 1962, Sandy was the youngest daughter of Virginia McCarley Watts and Albert Junior McCarley. She grew up in Columbus, Ga. and graduated from Baker High School in 1979.
Sandy's career supporting the federal government spanned 42 years. She began as a civilian working for the federal government at Fort Benning and moved to Huntsville, Ala. in 1991 to continue her career at Redstone Arsenal. Sandy made Huntsville her home, building lifelong friendships with her neighbors and raising their children together. She had a love for antiques and collected old perfume bottles.
Of all of her achievements, Sandy was most proud of her family. She loved her "babies" fiercely and spent as much time as possible with them. As a child, Sandy loved baseball and softball, and she shared that love with her daughters and grandchildren, spending her Saturdays at the ballpark watching back-to-back games.
The family will host a visitation at 10 a.m. and a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 25. Both services will be held in the chapel at First Baptist Church of Huntsville (600 Governors Dr SW, Huntsville, AL 35801).
Sandy's kind heart touched many, and she will be remembered as a loving mother, wife, friend, and doting grandmother.
