Sarah Darby Crago, age 75, of Huntsville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026, surrounded by her children and family following a brief illness.
Born in Opa - Locka, Florida, on May 12, 1951, Sarah was one of four children of the late Melvin and Sara (Darby) Perry.
At 18, in September 1969, she proudly joined the United States Women’s Army Corps as a Medical Specialist. She was honorably discharged on May 14, 1970, after becoming pregnant with her first child. Sarah later earned an associate’s degree from Joliet Community College in Illinois and went on to build a long and dedicated career as a secretary with the United State Government. She retired in 2018 after 30 years of service.
Sarah was blessed to find the love of her life, Larry Eugene Crago. They were married on October 7, 2001, and shared nine beautiful years together before his passing in early 2011.
For the past eight years, Sarah made her home in Huntsville, Alabama,where she cherished being close to her children and many of her grandchildren. She embraced every opportunity to play board games, teach the art of stained glass, reread her favorite Louis L’Amour novels, and spoil her beloved dogs, Drake and Woody.
She will be dearly missed by her brother, Melvin (Linda) Perry, and sister,Kathy (Denny) Frazier; her two children, Sarah (Sam) Hamilton and Joseph(Melissa) Gregory; her two bonus children, David (Jenna) Crago and Larrilynne Baxter; seven grandchildren, Jordan (Jana) Gregory, Erik (TayriLeon) Wisniewski, Leah Bradford, Cheyenne Gregory, Madison Gareri,Benjamin Hamilton, and Joseph Gareri; six bonus grandchildren, Douglas(Brittany) Crago, J.R. (Sophia) Crago, Zachary (Stephanie) Crago, Ashley Crago, Caitlyn Andreas, and Austin Crago; and three great - grandchildren,Lilliana Crago, Ava Gregory, and Finley Gregory.In addition to her husband and parents.
Sarah was preceded in death by her brother, William “Ted” Perry, and her son - in - law, Jeffrey Baxter.Burial will take place at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina, on July 10, 2026. A private celebration of life with family will beheld in June 2026. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sarah’s name to Huntsville Animal Services.
