Sarah Diane Koonce, 66, of Hazel Green, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026. She was born on January 15, 1960, in Athens, Alabama.

Sarah was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was the heart of her family — a natural caregiver who took great pride in caring for those she loved. Whether it was offering a listening ear, preparing a meal, or simply being present, Sarah's love showed through her actions every single day.

She really, really, really enjoyed playing cards — a pastime that brought her joy, laughter, and countless memories with family and friends gathered around the table. Those card games were never just about winning; they were about togetherness, storytelling, and love.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Crystal Witt; her son, Stanley Witt; her cherished grandchildren, Melody Auerhammer (Pretty Boy), Brantley Witt, and Brayson Potter; and her precious great-granddaughters, Zoey Auerhammer and Ellie Auerhammer. She is also survived by her siblings, Joyce Weaver and Thomas Johnson.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Billy Koonce; her mother, Evelyn Johnson; five brothers; and four sisters.

Sarah will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Her caring spirit, warm heart, and the love she poured into her family will forever remain in the lives she touched.

Visitation will be held at Berryhill Funeral Home on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
