Sean Patrick Larkin's Obituary

Sean Patrick Larkin passed away in the loving arms of his parents on Wednesday, January 5, 2022. Born on July 23, 1990 with Down syndrome and kidney disease, Sean dealt with renal challenges his whole life. Fortunately, he had many interests, primarily musical theatre. How he loved going to see a show! He enjoyed local theater as much as professional shows. Many local actors loved knowing Sean was in the audience. He also appeared on stage himself a few times. Sean also enjoyed traveling; he made several trips to the Orlando area and New Smyrna Beach, Florida.  His interest in early American History was fed with trips to Williamsburg, Virginia, Washington D.C. and places between. There were also fun times in Charleston area as well as Branson, Missouri and Panama City Beach, Florida. When he was 16 he went with his mom and cousin Christopher north to Chicago and then west as far as Devil's Tower. A couple of years later he and his mom spent a week exploring New York City. Fun times!

Sean was lucky to live in a community that makes an effort to provide opportunities for people with disabilities. The Miracle League of North Alabama was a good fit for Sean. He really enjoyed playing baseball and bowling with his friends. Then Merrimcack Hall came along and Sean took several classes there.  For a short time, Sean had a part time job working at The Arc of Madison County, ("The people place"). Four years ago, his kidney disease finally caught up with him and he started dialysis. The next year he and his mom sought out clinics that might provide a kidney transplant. That quest was shortened when it was  discovered he had bladder cancer. After many different chemo medicines were tried it turns out to be unsuccessful. There was evidence that a new medicine was shrinking all of the cancerous areas that had been found. Then, over the summer into fall Sean somehow developed a couple of bowel blockages. The surgeons say it was due to invasive scaring and the cancer spread. He spent most of the fall last year in and out of Huntsville and Vanderbilt Hospitals. On November 22, he was admitted to Vanderbilt where he stayed until December 30 th .

There were several surgeries and procedures, unfortunately everything they did didn't heal him.  His parents would like to thank the many friends who have followed his story and kept Sean in their prayers. Please send memorial gifts to the Miracle League of North Alabama and Fantasy Playhouse in Huntsville, Alabama.
