Shelby Jean McDonald (Smith), age 88, passed away peacefully on May 7, 2026, in Huntsville, Alabama. Born on August 13, 1937, in Huntsville, Shelby spent almost her entire life living in Madison County.
Shelby Jean was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family deeply. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Eugene McDonald; her grandson Daniel Meagher IV; her parents John and Mary Smith; and her brother Ray Smith. She is survived by her daughter Alesa Meagher and son-in-law Jody Meagher; granddaughter Brandi Meagher Walker and her husband Richie; and great-grandchildren Hunter Walker and his wife Anna Lauren, Emma Claire Walker, and Tate Walker. Shelby Jean also leaves behind her siblings Tina Self, Betty Thompson, Lynn Smith, Mickey Smith, and Ricky Smith.
A woman of unwavering faith, Shelby Jean loved Jesus with all her heart. Her strength and devotion to her family were evident in every aspect of her life. She found joy in cooking delicious meals for loved ones, decorating spaces with care and creativity, and nurturing beautiful gardens that reflected her love for nature.
Shelby Jean’s memory will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her. May the legacy of her love and faith bring comfort to all who mourn her passing.
A Visitation will be held on May 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 01:30 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home 2305 Memorial Parkway. Graveside service following visitation at 2:00 at Gatlin Cemetery, Ardmore, AL.
