Shelby Jean
Shaneyfelt
May 10, 1939 – October 31, 2024
Shelby Hutching Shaneyfelt, of New Hope, AL, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 31st, 2024 at the age of 85. Shelby was born on May 10th, 1939 in Athens, AL to the late Jewel Moore Coffman and William Hutching. She was also prceded in death by her husband Leelan J. "Heavy" Shaneyfelt after 47 years of marriage.
She is survived by her children: Kathy (Marvin) Sanderson, Steve (Shelia) Shaneyfelt and Ginger Shaneyfelt; grandchildren: Shaun (Lindsey) Sanderson, Zachary (Heather) Sanderson, Amy (Chris) Franklin, Steven (Makayla) Shaneyfelt, Heather (Coty) Price ,and Jessica (Glen) Saint; 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandchildren, and many close family members and friends.
Shelby worked for many years at Gensco, SCI and retired from Chrysler Corporation in 2001. She was a lifelong member of Grace Baptist Church of Huntsville, AL before becoming a member at New Salem Baptist Church in Owens Cross Roads, AL. Leelan and Shelby served the church for many years by leading worship at Grace Baptist. Shelby loved to sing, and she taught Sunday school for many years. Shelby loved her church family. Nothing brought her more joy than being in church on Sunday morning being in the presence of God, listening to the word and worshiping with the choir.
Shelby worked hard for most of her life to help provide for her family but was known for her strong faith in Jesus. She was a Christian woman who kept a close relationship with the Lord by reading the bible multiple times a day, being in constant prayer and fellowshipping with people that shared her same faith. Shelby never missed a chance to witness to others. Whether it was bringing food to the homeless, speaking to the sick in the lobby while waiting for her own appointment, reminding her family to always put God first in everything they do. Or either, being obedient to God by sharing his words and guidance through letters and cards. Shelby signed every card with love, Shelby and Jesus.
Shelby saved a special letter for her family after her passing. Even after she left this earth, she reminded us not to be sad or to weep for her. This was not good-bye. We are to rejoice and to celebrate. We will meet again someday. She is finally home.
The family would like to formally invite you to celebrate Shelby's life on Sunday, November 3rd from 4 to 7 PM at Berryhill Funeral Home and services at New Salem Baptist Church on Monday, November 4th at 12 PM with Brother Mike Shaneyfelt and Brother Lon Ostrzycki officiating.
