Shelley Fields Carter, age 90, passed away in Huntsville, Alabama on April 26, 2025.

She was born in Sylacauga, Alabama and was a 1953 graduate of B.B. Comer High School.   After raising her children, she attended Nunnelley Technical College and became a nurse, working at Sylacauga Hospital and Sylacauga Pediatrics. Her parents were Samuel Sumners Fields and Katie Wesson Fields of Sylacauga.

She is survived by her children John F. Carter (Lorraine) and Alice C. Ruf (Joseph), and also grandchildren John Carter, Jr. and Katie Carter.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, John Ocie Carter.  She was also preceded by her sisters and brothers. Mrs. Carter loved to attend to the needs and comfort of others, and was a wonderful mother and nurse.

A memorial service will be held in Sylacauga at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sylacauga or to an animal shelter of your choice.
