Obituary

Steve Scalph, 83, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on October 6, 2026.

He was born on July 27, 1943, in Kansas City, Kansas, to Floyd A. Scalph and Nellie G. Scalph. He graduated from Lyman High School in Longwood, Florida, on June 6, 1961. Steve proudly served in the United States Air Force from July 11, 1963, to July 31, 1981. On April 24, 1965, he married Diana Scalph, and together they built a life of adventure and shared purpose. During his working career, Steve and Diana moved 27 times.

After his military service, Steve continued his career with RCA, GE, and Lockheed Martin. Following a second retirement, he started a sign business called “Sign Here.” After 14 years he sold the business and began a new chapter of full-time RVing across the United States. Six years on the road in their recreational vehicle proved to be his ideal retirement. Huntsville, Alabama, became their favorite place, and settling there proved to be their best choice.

Steve’s mission in life was to get everyone he met to smile. He met every challenge with a positive attitude and believed every day was a blessing. The people he encountered were new friends, and his wanderlust kept new adventures just around the next corner. He was very supportive of Diana’s yoga discipline, reflecting the same encouragement and partnership that marked their life together. His military career was a good example of a life well lived, and being a father to Chris and Tena was among his greatest joys. He took special pride in being a grandfather to Shaine and Michael, and a great-grandfather to Noah, son of Shaine and Nicolette.

He is survived by his wife, Diana Scalph; his children, Chris and Tena; his grandsons Shaine and Michael; and his great-grandson Noah.
