Stephen Christopher
Wilson
Nov 29, 1962 — Nov 1, 2024
Beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather, Stephen Christopher Wilson passed away surrounded by his loving family in his Madison, Alabama, home on Friday, November 1st after an all too short battle with Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 61 years.
Stephen was born on November 29th, 1962, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, to Pete and Barbara Wilson. Stephen was predeceased by his father, Albert H. (Pete) Wilson, III and is survived by his wife, Sharon Elaine Horn Wilson, three sons: Daniel Christopher Wilson (Bethany), Joshua Michael Wilson (Amy) and James Edwin Wilson, granddaughter, Elaine "Ellie" Jo Wilson, mother, Barbara Huggins, and two brothers, Peter Wilson and David Wilson (Ruth).
Stephen's personal faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior was his first priority in life, and he had a heart for discipleship and mission work. He proudly engaged in his college campus ministry, Campus Outreach and traveled to Peru in his twenties as a part of a mission team. Most recently he was an active member at Valley Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed attending services and studying God's word. He attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama where he studied to become a teacher and met the love of his life, Sharon Elaine Horn. Shortly after graduation, the pair tied the knot in 1986 and began married life in Lakeland, Florida, where they both worked as teachers. Stephen approached teaching as a ministry and earned a 'Mousecar' teaching award: the 1997 Disney's Teacherrific Awards "Special Judges Award" for his work. Moving to Madison, Alabama, in 1998, Stephen dutifully supported his family by working at many businesses across Huntsville over the years, most recently at Polaris, Inc.
Stephen felt most at home in the water in some form or another. He was a very successful competitive swimmer in high school and later enjoyed serving as a swim and diving coach for the schools at which he taught. He also loved being underwater and shared his love of scuba diving with his wife and sons. On dry land, he lit up when he was surrounded by his sons or while playing with his granddaughter. The Wilson family cherishes memories of Stephen swimming, rough housing with his sons, family vacation fun, game nights, discussing books and movies, and cozying up with the family cats for movie night. He will be remembered for his faith, love of learning, sharp wit, resilience, and humor.
Friends and family are welcome to join Stephen's family honoring his memory with a Memorial Service at Valley Presbyterian Church on Saturday, November 9th. Visitation will be held at 1:00pm with the Memorial Service following at 2:00pm.
