Sue Newton McMahan of Huntsville, 93, passed away on March 3, 2025. She was born on August 23, 1931. Sue is survived by two children, William James McMahan, Jr. (Barbara) and Lynell McMahan Aycock (Michael), one brother, James A. Newton (Linda), four grandchildren, Rebecca Aycock Praytor (Nathan), William Aycock, David Aycock, and Christen Roth (Jake), two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Roth and Henry Roth, and many well-loved nieces, nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marion Franklin and Lutie Jane Newton, three sisters, Hattie Lee Harris, Donna Mae Johnson (Enis), and Mattie Lou Phillips (Leo), two brothers, Oscar Frank Newton (Geneva) and Robert Newton, Sr. (Jo Earle), and great-grandchild Elaine Taylor Perkins.
Sue married William James ("Mac") McMahan on March 27, 1953. She spent many years working in the Civilian Personnel Office, Redstone Arsenal, and then later for NASA as a contractor. Before and after her working years, she was the best at-home mother her children could have ever wanted.
Visitation will be at 9:30 AM on Saturday, March 8 at Whitesburg Baptist Church South Campus (The ROC), followed by the funeral service at 11:00. Rev. Terry Slay, Mount Zion Baptist Church, will officiate, with music led by Rev. Mark Jacobs, Minister of Music, Mount Zion Baptist Church. Burial will be at the cemetery adjacent to Leoma Baptist Church in Leoma, TN at 2:30. Nephew Robert Newton, Jr. will officiate the graveside service, with music provided by daughter-in-law Barbara McMahan. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whitesburg Christian Academy (7290 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville, AL 35802) or to your favorite charity.
