Thomas "Tommy" Earl Hunter, Sr., age 89, of Big Cove, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025. A lifelong resident of Madison County, Mr. Hunter was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who lived a life marked by faith, service, and hard work.

Affectionately known as "Papa" to many, Tommy lived each day with the goal of honoring God and bettering the lives of his family. His deep love for his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was evident in all he did. He carried a strong work ethic throughout his life, continuing to work well into his late 70s.

Tommy built a meaningful career at Huntsville Manufacturing Company, where he served as payroll master and later as general office manager. Beyond his professional work, he gave generously of his time and talents—serving as Scoutmaster of Troop 1 Boy Scouts and managing his children's singing group. In the late 1950s, he began preparing tax returns from his home, eventually growing the business into Hunter Accounting Service, which has continued to this day under the leadership of his son.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Vera Mae Hunter; parents, James and Annie Lee Hunter; brother, Leon Hunter; and sister, Betty Rosinbaum.

He is survived by his son, Thomas E. Hunter, Jr. (Terri), and daughter, LeJuan Hunter; two brothers, Larry Hunter (Judy) and Carl Hunter (Betty); two grandchildren, Tish Engel (Jamie) and Shaston Hunter (Kendal); and three great-grandchildren, Hudson, Bentley, and Emmalyn Mae.

Tommy's legacy of faith, generosity, and commitment to family and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 24th, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at Big Cove Holiness Church, with a funeral service immediately following. Burial will take place at Neal's Chapel Cemetery.
